Title: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: BlazingWyvern on May 21, 2007, 07:17:37 pm
If you've ever had a Nintendo64 or a GameCube, you've had a Super Smash Bros. Game.
I'd have to say that besides Final Fantasy, it has to be one of the best franchises out there. It doesn't take a quick try to master it; you have to actually pratice to get good at it.
Plus, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be coming out for the Wii in good time.

It's all good.

I know. I can't wait for brawl.

The only thing I'm concerned about, however, is that the fighting may take on a more structured feel, such as the template that brought Mortal Kombat down in flames. The quick, do-anything-anywhere style fights are what make that game, and if it loses that aspect, it isn't gonna be as own as SSBM was.

Still. Can't wait to see Nintendo's next installment in their almighty masterpiece that is Smash.

I'm still wondering how they are planning on integrating the Wiimote with SSBB.
Besides who the characters are, that's my only question.

I heard that it was going to run solely on the original GC controller.

Maybe I heard wrong...?

When is it coming it out(brawl)? Sometime December?

The Wiimote is probably not really going to be used, unless for bonuses (like the shoot-the-credits game after 1P mode).

If you're as obsessed as I am, you'll know about the Smash Site Relaunch, in which they guarantee daily updates from here on out. It just relaunched today.

what will probably happen is that you use either the nunchuk AND the wiimote, or i have a regular wii controller that is like the old one.

So why is Europe more important than the U.S. all of a sudden?

Off topic: Picard DID join, but somehow got kicked off. I invited him, along with a few others. they'll have posts in the Introduction Topic soon at least. (All 3 got kicked)

I don't really know why they would have the same date for both a JP and EU release date, and then skip out on the US. It's kinda strange.

We do it at every KotLT gathering. Really.

I don't think it works with the Wii processor, though. We can never start it then. I think the Wii's just too fast for it to glitch... >_>

AH! You took the first thing that I was gonna say, which is mention Star Fox.

Then I was gonna say DO A BARREL-ROLL, but you took that to.

Thanks.

But yeah, pretty much every StarFox game has owned so far. Even the new ones. Though no barrel rolling there.

Did anyone hear about the new item the gooey bomb? It looks like it will be pretty fun. Check out the Brawl site, it tells you about it, they are updating the site everyday now. So hopefully they'll reveal some more characters. Have Diddy Kong and Tom Nook be in it pleaseeee Nintendo.

I want to see Captain Olimar in a SSB game. That would be so cool, like him summoning all his little Pikmin to attack you.

I'm good with Mewtwo, Samus, or Falco. Everyone uses either Link or Marth where is the orginality...

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: BlazingWyvern on May 25, 2007, 07:46:53 pm
I use Roy. Only because I only use sword-wielding characters.
It's not that I'm not trying to be original, it's just Roy has a sword... and sets people on fire.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Doorszeppelinwho on May 25, 2007, 09:37:05 pm
The top, high, and middle are the characters mainly used in tournaments. L  (I copied and pasted this)

-SSBM Tier List-

-Top-
Fox
Falco
Zack Stuber

-High-
Sheik
Marth
Peach

-Mid-
C. Falcon
Ice Climbers
Samus
Dr. Mario
Jiggly Puff
Mario
Ganondorf

-Low-
Link
Luigi
DK
Roy
Y. Link
Pikachu

-Bottom-
Yoshi
Zelda
Mr. Game and Watch
Ness
Bowser
Kirby
Pichu
Mewtwo
Walex Boskelo

Oh yeah I want Captain Olimar to be in Brawl too. He deserves it, the Pikimin games were fun and original.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Level_9_Chao on May 26, 2007, 04:58:53 pm
Hey now, Walex Boskelo is DEFINITELY at least in the middle tier.

I used Falco before I was aware of tiers. But I still use him anyway. Notmally I kick BUM-BUM with him. Except when Freech plays me, but that's only because we both dodge a lot (and Roy has better range >_>).

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Petroid on May 26, 2007, 06:39:11 pm
Well those tiers are kind of true, but just by choosing fox doesn't mean you're the best their is, to be a have a good charater so gotta actually have know/understand all your persons moves(ex. mario's cape attack deflects projectiles/turn opponent in oppisite direction) but most people don't use it because they don't know how. Also, you're controler shouldn't suck(hint. S.M.) But depending on how good you are that tier should be acurate.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Level_9_Chao on May 26, 2007, 06:43:49 pm
The tier refers to how good they are as if they were played to their best ability. Like, Bowser is crappily slow, so all the faster guys will always kill him if they do it right.

But like with Freechack, he can consistently beat me with a LOW tier character, and I have the highest. >_>

Except that Bowser/Ganon can be made to go fast.

And once Ganon goes just the least bit faster, he's friggin' unstoppable.

Not really. The faster characters can be made to go even faster (Foxtrotting for example), so its pretty much no advantage. A fast character at the same playing level as a slow character will always win (unless they are in the bottom tiers, but their isn't really any fast characters there) this excludes bowser because he is in the last tier so pretty much any character can beat him. Ganon is not unstoppable at all Fox, Marth, and Shiek can own him with blinding speed.

Too bad they can't because they suck.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: BlazingWyvern on May 28, 2007, 07:20:50 pm
It all depends on the player. That's that.
A low-tier can easily beat someone in the high-tier if the low-tier player is better than the high-tier player.

Or the character. I don't think I've ever fought a Roy vs Roy or Falco vs Falco game with you... The results may be different.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: BlazingWyvern on May 28, 2007, 08:55:41 pm
It still comes down to the player. If they're familiar with one character, they probably aren't familiar with another. It isn't the character jumping around and throwing pokeballs at Asian  :) It's the player.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Doorszeppelinwho on May 28, 2007, 09:06:08 pm
I agree but, a mediocre Fox player could still probably beat a good Bowser/Metwo player. Mabye not for Ganon because he is actually somewhat good for a slow character.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: BlazingWyvern on May 28, 2007, 09:09:46 pm
Man... this should be in the debate forum  :P

Yes, someone who is mediocre could beat someone who is good, no doubt about it. It's called luck.
I don't have it lol

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Doorszeppelinwho on May 28, 2007, 09:12:58 pm
Its not luck its just the fact that Bowser and Mewtwo are insanely slow and the faster characters have a big advantage.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

This is completely unrelated, but Nintendo announced what the Final Smash thing is. It's... um... Final Smash, which you can only use once a game after you get the item. Dunno how it works.

By the time Ack sees this, he'll have known already.

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: BlazingWyvern on May 29, 2007, 07:20:59 pm
Technically, depending on a character's style, if someone has a style that can counter the style of the better player, then the lower-tier character can still beat a high-tier character.

I'm good, and I've been beaten before. L9C is good and he's been beaten before.
Also, circumstance and mindset is a big part.

I think you guys are basing stuff way to severely on the tier system.

It truly does depend on the player. You are never even going to come close to playing a character perfectly, so the thing doesn't apply to us at all. You can only play to the best of your ability. And if I play better than Alex (lolno), it doesn't matter if I use Fox or Mewtwo; I'll win.

Just sayin'.

Besides just arguing that the tier-system sucks, it looks like Brawl will be compatible with the wiimote, as well as the gamecube controller and the classic controller.

I love this game...
I only have nintendo64 but i enjoy Melee
I WILL get Brawl if i ever get my Wii
With only the first one i don't have many GameCube skills
BUT, I spent 1 week at my lake house getting good with Yoshi
On Melee my method is to move as fast as posible as Pichu
and use B> attacks to weaklings
OTHER THAN THAT I SUC!
Though i did stay away from the masters of this game for 20mins
:3 I LIVED FOR 20MINS :3

I think I might have been there when we all tried killing you.

From the looks of things, Brawl looks kinda similar to Melee, although I don't think it'll be possible to be a better game than Melee. Hopefully Nintendo can pull some crazy crap from their bum-bums.

Oh, yeah, Nick. I've been practicing like heck. SPECIFICALLY against Roy... Watch yourself next time we meet in Melee. >_>

Oh yeah. Has anybody other than me gotten all the trophies? There's 290.

ok so....

1) in an effort to actually put a conclusion on your tier debate... It seems to me that the low tier character largely rely on gimmics and sparkles (lightning, sleeping-ness, uh... umbrellas) to beat their opponents while the top tier characters rely largely on skill, timing, and strategy. any competetive or decent gamer will prefer to try to match their timing and skill and strategy against their opponents because thats where decent gamers are most adept...

while weak minded fools zap each other with lightning and hit each other with frying pans

2) SSBB- I havnt been to the site in a while but I think that a possible control scheme might use te nunchuck and wiimote togather where swinging the wiimote would be the equivalent of the A button in melee and the A button on the wiimote would be the equivalent of the b button in melee and the B button or C button on the wiimote/nunchuck would be jump and the Z button would be sheild. also maybe A and B at the same time (on the wiimote) would be grab like in some other wii games  also maybe they could utilize shaking the nunchuck to break grabs and they could use the pointer ability to target opponents with certain attacks/items.
anyway thats how I would like it to be... and probably they have already announced the control scheme ad I havnt seen it yet and my guess is completely wrong.... oh well :D
