as for a storyline- smash bros has absolutely no storyline. its still a good game. a great game. but no story line. however crappy you think the halo storyline is, it cant be any worse than NO storyline.
Smash is about a child who creates imaginary battles with Nintendo figurines. You just have to actually think to realize it.

that isnt a storyline. a storyline must have a begining, middle, and end to be a storyline. that is just one specific scene or event. you may also notice that there is no end to smash bros as the game is centered on beating your high score, beating it on the next didfficulty and beating your friends.

ok. wtf is up with you people in glitches and easter eggs? do you buy a game for its glitches and easter eggs?? when you sit down to play a game do you decide which based on glitches and easter eggs?

as for graphics- smash bros is inferior, but I dont care. as long as it looks decent and the effects dont distract from gameplay, it doesnt matter that much to me. although I do sort of start drooling when I see really nice looking games.
as for gameplay- gameplay is what does it for me. the gameplay in both SSBM and in Halo 2 are phenomenal. The best of the best. one is an arcade style fighter, the other is a FPS. 2 very different genres.
there. I proved using logic that halo is just as good as smash bros if not better.
No you didn't, you just said good things about both. You made no point in either direction.

no. look at each category.
story: halo > smash
graphics: halo > smash
gameplay: halo = smash
therefore: halo > smash

smash bros is inferior, but I dont care Caring is all that matters during evaluations. Thus: Halo > Smash Halo < Smash Halo = Smash proving that Smash > Halo. (see, fuzzy math is fun)

just because I dont care if Halo has better graphics doesnt mean SMASH is better. at the most it means they are equal. I dont even have to argue whether caring matters.
therefore (by you logic):
story: halo > smash
graphics: halo = smash
gameplay: halo = smash
OVERALL: halo > smash
(also for the record, just because you dont care about a particular aspect of game critique doesnt mean that you dont have to consider it for the overall picture. if I were critique-ing a game and I didnt have a single internet connection in my house, I would still have to give credit to a game with online multiplayer, even though I would never use it, because OTHER people might use it.)

What the? For one, this isn't a thread about Halo/Smash comparison. Also, Halo's graphics kick Smash squarely in the face. The thing that keeps Melee fast and fluid is the low-poly characters and one-faces. Also, the story for Smash is a lot deeper than the classic 'aliens attack'. At least in my opinion. I don't even feel that these games should be compared, they are much to different.

Returning to Smash's storyline, if it is a child's imagination, do they hate themselves? Seeing as the "Trophies" end up killing the child's exploding, laser-shooting, missile-launching hand. I'd say the story takes place in an insane asylum.

It's not any fun when the toys always win. That's why he has lasers.

If it were to be said that the toys were possessed by evil/good/noobish spirits and the world was inhabited by white-glove-wearing hands, then that would make complete sense. Otherwise, why would a kid let the toys win in the first place? Little kids don't like losing.
